Rust College Student, Xavier Short learned how to be an asset to his community through the Service Scholars Program

Xavier Short, senior from Rust College, was a member of the Mississippi INBRE Service Scholars program this summer. His research was on the influence of social support on body image, optimism, and sexual practices. His goal is to eventually own his own prosthetics & orthotics clinic. About his summer experience, he said, “The Mississippi INBRE Service Scholar Program has taught me a lot about the field of Public Health which coincides with the health of people in today’s society as well as what it is like to serve the community. The information that I received throughout this two month internship has shown me how to bridge the gap and be an asset to the community as a whole.”
