The University of Southern Mississippi graduate, Rupesh Patel has continued to further himself since being a member of the Mississippi INBRE Research Scholars in 2007. His summer experience allowed him to work in the lab of Dr. Glen Shearer where he was exposed to the medical field which piqued his interest. The research he did on Histoplasmosis allowed him multiple opportunities to present his research and paved the way for him to conduct research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as an undergraduate student.
Following his graduation from USM, he was accepted into medical school where he continued to conduct biomedical research, present his research and was published in Current Eye Research Journal. After medical school, he completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Currently, Rupesh is a PGY3 radiology resident at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He said, “Mississippi INBRE provided me with vital opportunities to begin my academic and medical career.”
Congratulations, Rupesh! We look forward to seeing where your career will take you next.
