Student Spotlight: Mississippi INBRE Academic-Year Scholar, Reagan McGuffee

Mississippi INBRE Academic-Year Scholar, Reagan McGuffee was recently awarded second place in the Cancer Division at the Southeast Regional IDeA Meeting in Morgantown, WV.

As a Millsaps College student, Reagan conducted research entitled “Synthetic Approaches to Photoactivatable Aromatic Heterocycles for Photoinduced Cell Death.” His goal is to obtain his Ph.D. in Chemistry or to work toward an M.D./Ph.D. in order to conduct research while in medical school.

Reagan said that the conference allowed him to network with other researchers. He said, “the students and professors were very open about their research and seemed very interested in our own projects.”
