Student Spotlight: Mississippi INBRE Academic-Year Scholar, Katie Penton

Mississippi INBRE Academic-Year Scholar, Katie Penton has been making strides in her research during her time working in the lab of Dr. Sharon Hamilton, Mississippi INBRE Research Development Grant awardee. Last week, Katie joined the group from Mississippi INBRE in attending the Southeast Regional IDeA Meeting in Morgantown, WV. While at the conference Katie was also awarded third place in the General Biomedical Sciences division.
As a Delta State University student, Katie plans to graduate with her Masters of Science in Natural Science this upcoming summer. Her goal it to eventually obtain a Ph.D. and continue her research in medicinal chemistry.
Katie said that she is grateful for the Mississippi INBRE Scholars program as it has allowed her to conduct and present her research at conferences throughout the state and country.
