Mississippi Valley State University student, Joshua Hurssey spent this summer as a Mississippi INBRE Research Scholar at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. His research was entitled “Evaluation of Bone Marrow and Subcutaneous Fat in Ovariectomized Rats Following Sustained Delivery of Estrogen or NPY – 1 Receptor Antagonist.”
Last week, Joshua attended Southeast Regional IDeA Meeting in Morgantown, WV where he was awarded first place in the Bioinformatics Division!
Upon finishing his degree at MVSU, Joshua plans to attend medical school and become a surgeon. His goal is to obtain his M.D./Ph.D. to be able to pursue both his passion for medicine and research. He said, “I want to continue to better the practice of medicine so that those in the future can become even better themselves.”
Joshua says that the Mississippi INBRE Research Scholars gave him valuable experience in research and provided many valuable connections.
Congratulations, Joshua! We look forward to seeing where your Mississippi INBRE Research Scholar Experience will take you next!
