On Jan. 31, 2020, the Mississippi INBRE Telenutrition Center hosted the Community Health Speaker Series featuring Dr. Ian Thompson from the Tribal Historic Preservation Office for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. The title of his presentation was “Choctaw Food: Remembering the Land, Rekindling Ancient Knowledge.” The seminar was held on the University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus in the Joseph Greene Hall, room 104.
The Community Health Speaker Series aims to deliver content on community health and behaviors in relation to disease prevention among Mississippians. Dr. Thompson’s presentation drew upon Indigenous knowledge to improve health and quality of life in today’s world. In addition to working with the Tribal Historic Preservation Office, he is also a certified Choctaw Community Language Instructor and a bison rancher.
