Tougaloo College student, Justin Coleman participated in the 2018 Mississippi INBRE Research Scholars program in order to reach his goal of obtaining an M.D./Ph.D. at a local medical school. During his first research experience off his college campus, Justin was able receive research training and learn techniques needed to be a successful researcher.
As a student looking to enter medical school, Justin found that sessions led by admissions counselors were particularly helpful as they provided insights to what medical schools and graduate programs are looking for.
Over the summer, Justin was provided the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. for the National IDeA Symposium of Biomedical Research Excellence to present the research he has done as a Tougaloo College student in the lab of a Mississippi INBRE Research Grant Awardee, Dr. Bidisha Sengupta. He said, “This was a thrilling experience because I was able to meet and network with potential researchers from all over the country.”
Congratulations, Justin on your accomplishments this summer. We look forward to seeing you accomplish your goals!
