Congratulations to Delta State University’s Dr. Sharon Hamilton for being awarded a grant from Delta State University’s Duice Fund. Dr. Hamilton is a Mississippi INBRE Research Development Grant recipient.

Mississippi INBRE’s Imaging Facility Director from The University of Southern Mississippi published his research, “Block ionomer complexes consisting of siRNA and aRAFT-synthesized hydrophilic-block-cationic copolymers II: The influence of cationic block charge density on gene suppression” in the journal Polymer Chemistry. His research is supported in part by Mississippi INBRE.

In collaboration with Mississippi INBRE Bioinformatics Core Director, Dr. Shahid Karim from The University of Southern Mississippi, Gary Crispell published his research entitled “Rickettsia parkeri colonization in Amblyomma maculatum: the role of superoxide dismutases” in the journal Parasites & Vectors. Their research was supported in part by Mississippi INBRE.

Mississippi INBRE’s Genomics Facility Director, Dr. Mike Garrett from the University of Mississippi Medical Center recently published his research entitled, “Nephron number, hypertension, and CKD: physiological and genetic insight from humans and animal models” in the journal Physiol Genomics. His research is supported in part by Mississippi INBRE.

Mississippi INBRE Bioinformatics Core Director, Dr. Shahid Karim from The University of Southern Mississippi recently published his research entitled, “The microbiome of neotropical ticks parasitizing on passerine migratory birds” in the journal Ticks Tick-Bourne Disease. His research is supported in part by Mississippi INBRE.

Congratulations to 2015 Mississippi INBRE Research Scholar, Annabelle Clark from The University of Southern Mississippi. She recently received a grant from the Drapeau Center for Undergraduate Research for her research entitled, “Biochemical characterization of Glycine-Rich Proteins in the Lone Star tick (Amblyomma americanum).”

Congratulations to 2015 Mississippi INBRE Research Scholar, Paige Allen from The University of Southern Mississippi. She recently received a grant from the Drapeau Center for Undergraduate Research for her research entitled, “Switching of sialome genes in Ehrlichia chaffeensis infected ticks.”

Dr. Shahid Karim, Mississippi INBRE Bioinformatics Core Director, recently received a grant from The University of Southern Mississippi for his research entitled “Assay development to quantify Selenium in tissues of an arthropod vector of infectious disease agents.”

Dr. Vijay Rangachari, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Southern Mississippi, was recently awarded one of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) most competitive grants, the Research Project Grant or R01.
