Catching up with 2018 Mississippi INBRE Research Scholar, Hezekiah Williams

Hinds Community College student, Hezekiah Williams is a member of the Class of 2018 Mississippi INBRE Research Scholars program who recently completed his summer experience working in the lab of Dr. Frank Spradley at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Hezekiah said that he applied for the Research Scholars program to be able to apply what he was learning in the classroom to research in the lab.

During his internship, Hezekiah not only learned new skills in biomedical research, but also was able to expand his professional network and made lasting bonds with his lab partners and mentor.

“I learned the foundational, yet necessary skills as to how biomedical research works, is applied through research and its future application down the line in society. It provided me with a practical knowledge of how we ‘do’ science, specifically in my biomedical arena,” said Hezekiah.

Hezekiah’s goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering and in business. He plans to be an entrepreneur, creating his own biomedical engineering business which will manufacture defensive armor for our troops to shield them against biological, chemical, atomic and nuclear warfare.

We are so proud of all of our hard-working students like Hezekiah. We look forward to seeing him accomplish these goals!
